The name Abbeville literally means "Priest's town."

    F. V. LANDRY / 1 / L [in small octagon]
    [1909 Ingle reverse] / 1
Felix V. Landry operated this general store near Abbeville from about 1894 to about 1930. It is possible that at this time his operation became known as Landry Stores, Inc. (see below).

LANDRY STORES / INC. / ABBEVILLE, LA.
    Good For / 5c / In Merchandise
Landry Stores, Inc. was formed in 1930 and operated through at least 1958. No directory listings have been found identifying the locations of any branches; either they were also located in Abbeville or the name reflected unrealized optimism. Given the initial year of operation, it is believed this firm was a successor to F. V. Landry (listed above).

PACETTI FISH CO. / ABBEVILLE, LA.
    Good For / 1c / In Trade
Pacetti Fish Company began in St. Augustine, Florida as Pacetti and Page in the early 1930s. In the late thirties Truman Pacetti and his wife Ruby broke away and established three operations in Louisiana: this one in Abbeville (which shut down about 1945), one in Berwick, and another in Morgan City, issuing tokens at all three locations (see listings under those towns). Reportedly, the tokens were used interchangeably at all three locations as well as at St. Augustine after the Pacettis returned to Florida in the late 1940s.

ROSE HILL / SUGAR / REFINING / CO. / ABBEVILLE, LOUISIANA.
    10 [i] [holed for suspension]
It is not known whether the "10" is a denomination or if this was an identification or tool check. Rose Hill Sugar Refining Company was actually located on Bayou Vermilion several miles south of Abbeville. The firm began operations about 1897 and by 1919 was known as the Rose Hill Company. They processed 2.8 million pounds of sugar in 1901 and had a five mile railroad in 1914.
