Banks also issued
tokens to encourage patronage. This generally occurred during the 1920s. Many of these were distributed much like the discount tokens described above, but other schemes were used.
One method involved the cast iron savings banks now popular with some collectors. When one of these banks was sold or given away, the banker would deposit a token in it to "seed" the savings compartment.
